State lawmaker resigns from personal charity

State Rep. Thaddeus Jones has announced on Facebook that he would step down from his eponymous nonprofit, the Jones Foundation, after “nearly twenty-three years of service.”

The announcement was posted Aug. 31 on both Jones’ personal Facebook page and the Jones Foundation’s Facebook page. The Daily Southtown days earlier detailed the charity’s inconsistent filing of financial documents, borrowing from Jones’ political campaign committee and unpermitted solicitation of donations.

In his letter, which is addressed to Jones Foundation friends and supporters, Jones, a Calumet City Democrat, enumerates the charity’s accomplishments and says that it will continue with a new CEO, new board and new mission.
