Education cuts are hitting what some said are the most crucial things we teach our kids in school.

It’s called personal financial literacy, and it was made a graduation requirement by the legislature back in 2007.

But, now, some teachers said the state is taking away the resources they need to teach this.

The Personal Finance Institute is going on this week at UCO.

It helps teachers learn how to teach their students about personal finance.

Monday morning’s topic was gambling.

It’s just one of 14 points covered in personal literacy education.

Others include budgeting, taxes, banking, investing, loans, insurance, identity theft, retirement planning, mortgages and home buying.

All of the teachers attending the institute teach the course back at their home schools.
