It’s a delicate question: if that much cash suddenly showed up on your doorstep with a camera crew, would you be willing to give it all away to help someone else? Even if you and your family really needed it?

Army veteran Dave Bronson faced this exact decision when the crew of the new CBS reality show The Briefcase showed up at his door. The premise of the show is this: a family in need is presented with a briefcase filled with $101,000. They can either keep the money for themselves or use it to help another family struggling just as much or more than they are.

Bronson and his wife, Cara, are just one of the incredible families featured on the show. Ten years ago Bronson was serving in Iraq and lost his left leg—and almost his life—to an explosive. Since the accident, Bronson and his family have faced many challenges, including finding work and Cara working a night job to support the family. As the first family featured on The Briefcase, the Bronsons were presented with the impossible choice: either keep the money to ease their own financial burdens or give it away to another deserving family.

The decision definitely wasn’t an easy one. When asked about this highly emotionalexperience, Bronson said, “Being on the show changed my family’s life in a dramatic way. My wife and I learned that putting yourself in another family’s shoes and seeing their struggles is a huge eye-opener. We realized money doesn’t need to run your life and that sometimes helping a complete stranger can be the most gratifying feeling.”

We won’t spoil the ending for you! But be to check out The Briefcase airing on CBS onWednesday, May 27. In the meantime, you can watch the trailer here:
